Ron and his son, Gabe, who also runs the restaurant with him, will expand locally – on Cape Cod -- and are seeking franchisees to open locations in the same communities where the Cape Cod Baseball League has teams. Although there is no affiliation between the Hot Stove Saloon™ business and the CCBL, Ron believes that a restaurant so closely tied to baseball will benefit from being in a town where there are teams.

That means that the first opportunities will be to open Hot Stove Saloon™ restaurants in the Cape Cod communities of Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Cotuit, Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis, Orleans, Wareham and Yarmouth-Dennis. Because the CCBL relies on community support, Ron envisions how Hot Stove Saloon™ community activities can benefit the League also.

We mentioned that “all things baseball” is one of the key differentiators in the Hot Stove Saloon™ plan. Here’s another.

This restaurant does not take credit cards (they do, however, have an ATM on premises for customer convenience). Instead, they have implemented the Hot Stove Saloon™ “Charity Driven Credit Card Policy.”

Several years ago, the owners made the decision to discontinue accepting credit cards as a form of payment, and instead allocated the money they would have spent on credit card processing – typically 2 to 4% - to community charities.

Over the last two years since this policy was implemented, a number of organizations have benefitted. They include My Sandy Hook Family Fund; Cape Cod Special Olympics, Cape Cod Veterans/Wounded Warriors; Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, Wild Care/Wildlife Treatment Center, and so many more. Check out for a list of contributions and amounts, which generally range between $1,000 and $1,200 monthly.

Ron believes that this “Charity Driven Credit Card Policy” may catch hold nationally, and he will make it a part of his franchise agreement with franchisees. “Nothing against credit cards,” he says, “but we’d rather see those funds support local charities.” And, he notes, his patrons overwhelmingly agree.

Hot Stove Saloon™ franchisees will become a valued part of the communities they serve – “good sports” in every sense of the word
