Ron Leidner loves the
restaurant business, and he serves up the ideal fare for
the Hot Stove Saloon™ way.
Ron, a New Jersey native,
came to Cape Cod, MA and entered the restaurant business
following a successful career in the United States Armed
Forces. A veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the Coast
Guard, his resume includes a four-year tour of duty on a
submarine and service as a helicopter pilot for 12 years
following completion of Navy Flight School.
His ‘first course’ was
running a 200-patron establishment located on one of
Cape Cod’s picturesque harbors, which offered both
indoor and outdoor (harborside) seating. After
successfully running this restaurant for a number of
years and subsequently selling the business, he opened
the Hot Stove Saloon in 2005.
Sure, there are a number
of ‘sports bars’ and ‘sports restaurants’ in the United
States, but the Hot Stove Saloon™ model is different in
a couple of key ways. First, its sports motif is all
baseball. Patrons will see memorabilia from days gone
by, along with many current reminders of America’s
favorite pastime. But hockey sticks, footballs and other
sports items? Not on the Hot Stove Saloon™ premises.
In fact, Ron points to The
Cape Cod Baseball League as inspiration for his décor.
The CCBL is the premier amateur baseball league in the
US and has been since 1885. Many a Major Leaguer got his
start with the CCBL, including former Red Sox Center
Fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (Falmouth 2004), American League
Manager of the Year Eric Wedge (Yarmouth-Dennis ’88) and
New York Yankees Manager Joe Giarardi (Cotuit 84).
Widely recognized as the best amateur summer leagues in
the country by college coaches and professional baseball
scouts, the CCBL indirectly plays a key role in the Hot
Stove Saloon™ expansion plan.
Teams are located in
Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Cotuit, Falmouth, Harwich,
Hyannis, Orleans, Wareham and Yarmouth-Dennis. And, that
is, not coincidentally, where the Hot Stove Saloon™
initial franchising opportunities lie. Ron’s vision is
to locate a Hot Stove Saloon™ restaurant in every town
that hosts a Cape Cod Baseball League team.
